Manihiki Island Map
MANIHIKI is one of the most beautiful atolls in Cook Islands and found in the northern region. The lagoon is some 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) wide and there are 40 tiny motu (islets) found around the perimeter. Manihiki is most famous for its black pearl industry - the pearl shell thrives in the unpolluted waters of the lagoon. Lying only a few feet above sea level it is typical of most atolls in the South Pacific. Manihiki, first discovered by traders in 1822, is also known as Humphrey Island. Remotely located and over 750 miles from Rarotonga.
